Therapies

"The most helpful intervention for children with any type of behaviour problem, regardless of the cause, is providing a living environment which encourages growth. For this to occur the child must feel physically and psychologically safe and underlying needs must be met. The child's daily living experiences must provide opportunities to have his/her needs met and to learn more about him or herself."

(V Fahlberg, 2004)

Our home and school form part of a true therapeutic community, where children can establish an emotional safe base and can begin to heal and grow. Our work can be likened to a three strand rope; the strands being social care, therapy and education. Each strand is equally strong and each contributes to the greater strength of the whole. We employ a one team approach.

All children have programmed individual therapy sessions with our resident therapist. In addition they can pick up extra, ‘drop in’ sessions three evenings per week. We hold regular therapeutic community meetings facilitated by our therapist.

All children have two keyworkers who carry out planned weekly keywork sessions. The keyworkers receive clinical supervision from our therapist.

All our staff are trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques.
